EPISODE 12: ON A MOTORBIKE THROUGH WAR-TORN MOZAMBIQUE

Extreme travel doesn’t get more extreme than this!

In 1987, Clementine Smith and her boyfriend drove across war-torn Mozambique on the back of a motorbike so that they could get to Malawi for Christmas.  Even though Clementine had spent part of her childhood in Malawi and was now living in Zimbabwe, little was she prepared for the horrors of the civil war that raged through Mozambique.  Travelling on a budget and a journey fraught with danger, Clementine discusses how she coped with the extreme poverty and suffering she witnessed, along with the risk of being ambushed. Broke and with little food to eat, they arrived in Malawi, a country which on the surface appeared a world apart from Mozambique, but little did they know of the road which lay ahead.
